Black Questions - (White)American Fiction

Just thoughts I had after watching American Fiction last night. I highly recommend it , but it sparked a lot thoughts around white liberal perceptions of black stories and the pervasiveness of inequality throughout our lived experiences.

What did you think we meant when we said we were treated different? What did you think we meant when we said we are made to feel like other?

What did you think we meant when we said we aren't seen or treated as humans?

What did you think we meant when we said when we don't have power and privilege to help us escape? What did you think we meant when we said that they love what we provide but they hate us?

What did you think we meant when we said we have to prioritize their comfort first? What do you think we meant about being performative?

What did you think we meant when we said Karens love to cancel thoughts that make them uncomfortable and rush with ease to cover our mouths from speaking uncomfortable truths?

What did you think we meant when we say black trauma porn is too palatable, too entertaining to you?

When you read our stories, did you see us?

When you read our stories, did you see you? What did you think we meant by all of it? Did you think it didn't mean you too?

Did you think it until it meant you?
